Natural Therapy Sports Massage

After many years working as a beauty therapist training in all areas including massage, I decided in 2022 to re-train in sports and remedial massage.

I have always had a passion in helping people to feel there best and as much as I enjoyed providing spa style Swedish massage, I found it never quite hit the problem areas such as neck, shoulder, hip and spine issues.

So I did some research and found myself enrolling at Cambridge Regional College on there level 3 in sports massage, I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the course, and after completing with flying colours I signed up for level 4 in sports and remedial massage.

These courses gave me the skills of understanding soft tissue disfunction, enabling me to treat my clients with acute and chronic conditions, such as rotator cuff impingement, Achilles tendonitis, planter fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and hip and spine issues, by using a range of techniques including soft tissues release, trigger point therapy and muscle energy techniques.

I have since undertaken continuous professional development training courses in Dry needling, myofascial cupping, kinesiology taping and IASTM, I also had a fantastic opportunity to massage professional football players at Cambridge United FC during my level 3 course.

Thank you for taking a look at my website, hope to see you soon,

WENDY

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a therapeutic therapy aimed at manually manipulating the muscle, connective tissues, ligaments and tendons, using various techniques such as,

  • Effleurage - To warm up the muscles
  • Petrissage - Kneading and lifting movements that target deeper layers of muscle and tissue, helping to improve circulation, reduce muscle tension and promote flexibility.
  • Cross fibre friction - Deep transverse movements applied across the muscle fibres to break up adhesions, improve mobility and enhance tissue healing.
  • Trigger point therapy - Direct pressure applied to specific points of tension or “knots” to reduce tightness restricted movement and alleviate pain.
  • Stretching - Active or passive stretching techniques used to increase flexibility, improve range of movement and reduce risk of injury.

The purpose of Sports Massage Therapy is to help alleviate stress and muscle tension that builds up in the soft tissues during physical activities .

Sports Massage is just not for the sporty, whether you are active or sedentary, you will find sports massage is for you.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique used by physical therapist and other professionals to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement impairments, it involves the insertion of very thin needles (similar to those used in acupuncture) directly into trigger points, which are tight bands of muscle that can cause pain and restrict movement.

Dry needling is believed to work through various mechanisms, including stimulating the bodies natural healing process, increasing blood flow to the area, and disrupting the signals that contribute to pain perception.

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial cupping is a technique that involves the use of cups placed on the skin to create a suction which produces a negative pressure underneath the cup, the negative pressure helps to decompress the area, by lifting the skin and the layer of tissue under the skin (the fascia) up into the cup, this produces space for the underlying tight muscle to lay down and relax.

Cupping also helps to bring blood flow to the area being treated, blood carries important nutrients which helps the tissue repair.

Myofascial cupping can be applied in various ways each serving different therapeutic purposes.

  • Static cupping
  • Flash cupping
  • Gliding
  • Trigger point cupping
  • Active movement

IASTM

(Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)

IASTM is a technique used in physical therapy and other forms of manual therapy to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain.

The method involves using stainless steel bevelled edge tools specifically designed to effectively manipulate areas of the skin, fascia, muscles and tendons.

  • Enhance range of movement - By breaking down scar tissue and fascial restrictions, improving flexibility in the area being treated.
  • Reduce pain - The technique can help decrease pain by replacing underlying inflammation and triggering the body’s natural healing response.
  • Increase circulation - The use of the IASTM tools promotes increased blood flow to the treated areas, in which aids recovery.
  • Promote healing - By mechanically stimulating the affected areas IASTM can accelerate the healing process by encouraging cell regeneration.

IASTM is commonly used in the treatments of conditions such as tendonitis, planter fasciitis, muscle strains and post surgical scar tissues.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is a technique use to support to relieve pain in muscles, joints and ligaments.

It involves applying a stretchy adhesive tape that slightly lifts the skin to help improve circulation, support muscle movement and enhance performance without restricting movement.

This method is widely used in sports and physical therapy to treat and prevent injuries and to facilitate active recovery.

  • Activates muscles that have been weakened after injury or surgery, improving the quality of contractions and speeding up the healing process.
  • Stabilises the area without restricting the movement.
  • The client can remain active during normal activities.
  • Relaxes and can offload over used/over strained muscles.
  • Accelerates blood flow to the injured area to speed up the healing process.
  • Reduces oedema by aiding removal of lymphatic fluid.
  • Correction of postural imbalance and improving range of movement.
  • Pain reduction in effected area.
